REHAU Automotive's Sustainability Report 2023 shows significant progress towards the company's sustainability goals. Although the new requirements of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) will not become mandatory until 2025, REHAU Automotive is already aligning itself with these guidelines. In the reporting year, REHAU Automotive was able to further advance its sustainability goals and set new, more ambitious targets where goals have already been achieved. This underlines the company's commitment to having a long-term positive impact on the environment and society.
In its latest sustainability report, REHAU Automotive takes stock of its activities in 2023 and provides a detailed insight into its values, goals and sustainability management. The company emphasises that sustainability is deeply rooted in its corporate culture and that significant successes have already been achieved. The company was able to reduce its CO2e emissions in the Scope 1 and 2 categories by an impressive 79% compared to the base year 2018. ‘This is significant progress towards more climate-friendly production and demonstrates our commitment to climate protection,’ emphasises Dr Markus Distelhoff (CEO REHAU Automotive).
Positive results and ambitious goals
The current sustainability report confirms REHAU Automotive's determined course in its environmental strategy. Another important step was to increase the proportion of electricity consumed from renewable energy sources to 100%. This means that the company now relies exclusively on renewable energies to cover its electricity requirements. In this context, Dr Markus Distelhoff emphasises: ‘The switch to 100% electricity from renewable energy sources is a key component of our sustainability strategy.’
Implementing the goals of the Green Deal: measures and strategies
All German plants will gradually be equipped with photovoltaic systems (PV systems) and connected to the grid in order to utilise solar energy efficiently and further reduce the carbon footprint.
In addition, the heating and cooling supply is increasingly being converted to renewable energies. Among other things, this is being done by generating local heating with ‘green gas’ or by using wood chip systems. At Plant A in Feuchtwangen, a local heating network was put into operation together with a farmer, providing 2,000,000 kWh of energy per year. Another project is being realised for Plant A in Viechtach in cooperation with an external operator. A wood chip plant is being built there, which will supply the site with 3,000,000 kWh of thermal energy per year in future.
